The project presents over 1000 photographs and original source documents from archives in Austin and across the country. This is a rare sample of "The Gold Dollar," one of the first Black owned, Black newspapers in Austin published in the 1870s by Reverend Jacob Fontaine, a former slave. Documents such as this one give the viewer a first-hand reading of the past. |
